 NTTC June 2009 Greens

NTTC June 2009 was doomed from the very start. Not a very promising first line for a post, you might think. But I kid you not. Everything that could possibly go wrong with this month’s event did, helped in part by yours truly. In the beginning of June, I managed to do the roundup for May and announce the winner. I also managed to announce the June 2009 NTTC challenge the same day. Then I left for a glorious 10 day holiday to sunny Gold Coast. I never had a chance to promote the event or spread the word. After I got back in mid-June, I headed over to ismyblogburning.com to post the event and posted it. I tweeted it via my @gelskitchen Twitter account. Then I sat back and waited for the entries to come in … waited … waited … waited. I tweeted about it some more, a few nice folks over at twitter helped me apread the word by retweeting the event. With just 3 days left for the event to close, I headed back to see it on ismyblogburning.com and what do I find? I listed the event with a start date of June 30th and an end date of June 1st *slaps forehead*. You would think after almost 2 decades of using the internet, I would’ve got that right! I’m not doing this event next month, I vented to Nick, who sympathatically nodded his head as he always does. Then with 2 days to go, 3 beautiful entries came alongwith the realization that I had not listed an email address with the challenge. Boy, was I in a hurry to escape to my Gold Coast holiday or what! But despite so many things going wrong, these 3 lovely ladies sent in their 3 equally amazing recipes. It was like the rainbow coming out after the rains.

The theme for NTTC #4, June 2009 was Greens. The challenge was to keep it simple, keep it in under 10 minutes, to use "greens" amongst other things, to make it healthy and to have fun. The 3 entries captured the essence of NTTC beautifully. I am very happy to say that everyone is finally getting what this event is all about.

Teczcape sent in the perfectly steamed Kai Lan In Butter And Shallots. It doesn’t get any simpler than this people. It might very well be the secret to those buttery greens you so enviously and greedily lap up at the restaurant.

Jai And Bee from Jugalbandhi entered the very creative Papad Palak (Spinach With Lentil Wafers). This recipe was well thought of and nicely executed with gorgeous pictures.

Stephanie Snow from Steph Chows concocted the most delightful little Seaweed Salad in a spoon with a little intro on the benefits of seaweed and why you should brave it.

All three recipes were unique and healthy. It was a tough choice for me because of the little extra something in each recipe. I had a little help from Nick in deciding the winner. After much deliberation I am proud to announce the Official Winner of NTTC #4, the June 2009 NTTC SPOONBEARER *Drum Roll Please*

Stephanie Snow from Steph Chows for the unique little, pop-in-your-mouth Seaweed Salad that requires no cooking and would nourish your body with immense goodness.

I hereby award you the SPOONBEARER BADGE. Wear it proudly and keep making the world a healthier place, one recipe at a time!
